2. Subject of Data Protection
The subject of data protection is personal data, meaning any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
Health and Fitness Data
If you explicitly give us permission, we collect health data from linked sources such as Google Fit or Apple HealthKit. This may include, among other things:
- Steps
- Heart rate
- Activity level
This data is used solely to provide you with personalized insights, show your progress, and improve your user experience within the Peerpep app. Your health data will not be shared with third parties, not sold, and is stored securely.
You can withdraw your consent at any time via your device settings.
Automated Data Collection
When visiting our website or app, your device automatically transmits data for technical reasons. The following data is stored separately from any other data you may provide to us:
- URL of the visited page
- Network connection latency
- Date and time
We store this data for the following purposes:
- Load balancing, i.e., to distribute access to our website across multiple devices and offer you the fastest possible load times.
- Ensuring the security of our IT systems, e.g., to prevent specific attacks on our systems and identify attack patterns.
- Ensuring the proper functioning of our IT systems, e.g., if errors occur that we can only resolve by storing the IP address.
- To enable law enforcement or legal action if there are specific indications of criminal offenses.
Your IP address is only stored for a period of 14 days. In this case, processing is based on our overriding legitimate interests as mentioned above (Art. 6, para. 1, lit. f GDPR).
Registration Data
To use all features of Peerpep, you need to register. You must provide the following mandatory information:
- Email address
- Username
- Password
Alternatively, you can log in using your Facebook, Google, or Apple account. In this case, we receive the following personal data from Facebook or Apple to create a user account for you:
- Name
- Email address
- Photo (Facebook only)
- Authentication token
If you log in via Facebook, your Facebook friends who also use Peerpep may find you through the search function if you wish and have enabled the appropriate settings on Facebook.
Your registration data is necessary to set up and manage a user account for you, so that you can use all features of our website. In this case, you enter into a (free) user agreement with us under which we collect this data (Art. 6, para. 1, lit. b GDPR). To enter into the agreement, you must provide us with this data. However, you are not contractually or legally required to enter into the agreement or provide the data.
Additionally, during registration, you may optionally provide further information, such as uploading a profile picture, telling others about yourself, or indicating your favorite sport. This information is voluntary and not required for registration. However, note that this information may be visible to other Peerpep users based on your settings. You can choose whether you want to be discoverable by other users. We collect this data to offer you the related features of our website, Art. 6, para. 1, lit. b GDPR.
When you log into Peerpep, we also temporarily store your IP address to detect and prevent possible attacks and large-scale abuse of login attempts to Peerpep (e.g., so-called brute force attacks) by blocking access to these IP address blocks if necessary. Processing is carried out to ensure the security of processing in accordance with Article 32 GDPR and based on our legitimate interest in protecting our service from misuse (Art. 6, para. 1, lit. f GDPR). Storage only takes place as long as necessary for these purposes.
5. Community Features
On Peerpep, you can interact with other users, for example by posting personal highlights or commenting. You can also add other users as friends if you want to stay up to date with their new posts. Using these features is, of course, voluntary. If you use them, we collect the data you entered in order to make it available to other Peerpep users in accordance with your settings and the feature you use. If desired, we will also inform you via email or push notification when there is news about your published content. You can configure which notifications you receive in your settings. Your data is processed for these purposes in order to provide you with the features as part of your user agreement (Art. 6, para. 1, lit. b GDPR).
6. Inquiries
If you send us inquiries by email or other means, your data will be stored and used to process the request. We store inquiries related to contracts or with potential legal relevance for the legally required retention period. Further processing is restricted. Once the retention period has expired, the data is deleted. Inquiries are processed based on our overriding legitimate interest in responding to your request (Art. 6, para. 1, lit. f GDPR). Your data will be deleted in accordance with legal requirements as soon as we no longer need it.
